Filled with the ancient cultural heritage from the maritime activities and
endowed with the serene beauty of nature where tides lap at the cradle of shores
sing the glory of Gopalpur, a small town built up on the Bay of Bengal.
As regards, the socio-economic condition of the people of Gopalpur, their
livelihood is basically from the sea production or from fish industries. Every
now and then, it is seen to have battered by the severe geomorphic events which
make lives sordid. Feeling the graveness of the belly, they forget about the bell.
To cater the need of the public, particularly for the youth, which was a long standing demand for establishment of a college was set up by the then local social workers.
The existing building of Gopalpur College was handed over to the Principal/Secretary G.B. in the year 1982 by the direction of Hon’ble Chief Minister J.B.Patnaik for smooth running of the college. The dreams of the local social workers have turned into its reality. The institution has come across 40 years of its past with its ups and downs and has been delivering its service for the upliftment of backward class people of this region. Now, the institution is surrounded by other institutions like Berhampur University, ADGM College, Engineering & Pharmacy Colleges which made it a champion circle.
The college has been declared as an Aided institution by the Director of Higher Education, Government of Odisha in 1994. It is a Co-Education institution imparting +2 & +3 teaching with Honours facilities in Science, Arts & Commerce and comes under 2F12b of UGC Act. Around two thousand students join every year for their higher education. The teachers have been rendering their best service to promote its inner status. Certain staff members have not yet received their salary from the Govt. still their effort to lead it for its better position is highly praiseworthy. Parents and public express their gratefulness for their noble cause.
It has been considered, today as a pioneer educational institution in this locality. The employees put forth their time bound potentialities and commitment for all round development of this institution.
